Aeger Anima (“Sick Soul” in Latin) unleashes its debut EP, The Falling Leaves — a black metal record steeped in the anti-war poetry of WW1 and the atmospheric BM tradition, yet unafraid to break its own spell. Brutal, unexpected rhythm shifts collide with electronic sparks that veer toward psytrance rhythms, most strikingly on the self-titled track.
The poetic roots run deep: “I Have a Rendezvous with Death” and “Dulce Et Decorum Est” set the words of Alan Seeger and Wilfred Owen to music, while the EP’s title is drawn from the work of Margaret Postgate Cole.
The project is the brainchild of Jehan Fillat, formerly the head of Apathia Records (2009–2019), a label renowned for its uncompromising avant-garde metal releases — most notably Pryapisme, with the viral “Un druide est giboyeux…” video he directed himself — alongside modern metal cornerstones from Atlantis Chronicles, The Dali Thundering Concept, and Heart Attack.
